| Denise Bickel DVM: I grew up in New
Jersey where I worked at vet clinics and on several
living history farms during
high s chool and summer breaks from college. I graduated
from Michigan State University in 2000 with my DVM, then
completed an Internship at Colorado State University in
Large Animal Medicine. From 2001 to 2005 I worked at a
mobile large animal practice in the Finger Lakes of
upstate New York. I decided to return to Michigan in
2005 to be closer to my big sister and family, and
worked in a local equine practice since then. I have now
made the decision to go out on my own because I believe
there is a real need for equine vets where I live (which is a bit far away from where I work now). My
medical interests include equine lameness and especially
laminitis, equine behavior cases, and foal health. Away
from work, I am enjoying training my 17 month old
mustang, Brennir, hiking with my dog, and looking
forward to when I can have all three of us on the trail
together!
My assistant is Katie Timmer. She
graduated from William Smith college in 2005 with a BS
in Biology. She has worked with animals in various
laboratory and clinical settings during her last three
years working for the University of Michigan. She has
plenty of real-life farm and work experience with
animals of all types and is looking forward to
furthering her career and interest in the area of
veterinary medicine.
